Why the Chinese do not like the Red iPhone?

A new version of the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus in red with white came to us at the beginning of the year, and the red is part of Apple's annual campaign in collaboration with RED, in the fight to prevent AIDS.

The models, which are available from March 24, either 128 or 256 GB of memory, were received with euphoria in most of the 40 countries and regions that will have them on the market. However, not so in China, where the issue of AIDS is a taboo that does not allow Apple to link it on its website with the brand PRODUCT (RED).

The iPhone 7 appears simply as a red edition, with no mention of what part of the proceeds will go to the Global Fund. Only 1 percent of the population is related to the disease, which is not discussed by the Chinese government; however, it has a greater veto because it is linked to homosexuality, another taboo subject.

This could be the reason why the red iPhone is not the favorite topic in the Asian country, although there is a second latent option: the law that prevents companies from selling products related to a social cause to boost their sales. Last year Apple's online film and book services were shut down in China. Apple was also made to pull the New York Times from the China App store following a request from the authorities.

Before both scenarios MacRumors questioned the CEO of Apple, Tim Cook, who simply replied that: "We donated to the Global Fund of each iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus that we sell in all countries of the world."

What leaves both possibilities open. Meanwhile, the iPhone 7, 7 Plus and 6s were the three most popular smartphones in 2016, with a combined sales share of 31.3 percent, although the iPhone X promises to break that scheme.
